Some Thoughts For Today

First of all, I think I know the Left's strategy here: Biden-Harris. IF they win, and I have a feeling that they will. Here are 2 scenarios...

  1. As soon as Biden's cabinet is seated, they meet with the vice president and unanimously declare Biden incapable of serving in office. Harris is sworn in as the president. This brings a new meaning to the Left's slogan, "Selected Not Elected". Remember that one from the 2000 election?
  2. The Democrats wait until after the 2022 mid-term election. IF they either take both the House and the Senate, or hold them, gaining from the 2000 Democrat blowout, Biden steps down and Harris becomes president. She can then finish the last 2 years of his term, and run for 2 terms of her own, potentially giving her a 10 year presidency. That gives the Left 12 years to cement in place the Marxist government that they so desire.
Either way, we are screwed. In the long run, we are screwed no matter what. Trump is nothing but a speed bump in the Left's journey to total power in this country. If Trump gets re-elected, it's just another 4 year speed bump in the quest toward World Government Communism. There will be a world-wide ruling class, and a world-wide ruled class. Remember what Benjamin Franklin said about what our new country would be: "A republic, if you can keep it". Because of our inability to keep the enemy within under control we might have lost our chance to "keep it."

Here are some quotes from a couple of articles and my comments about them:

The first one is from National Review by Kevin Williamson, called On Kamala Harris.

Joe Biden has named his 2020 running mate: authoritarianism.

Until she was stopped by a federal court, Harris was laying subpoenas on organizations such as the Americans for Prosperity Foundation, a conservative-leaning group that is critical of Democratic global-warming proposals. She demanded private information that the organizations were not legally obliged to disclose, including financial information and donor lists, in order to be able to subject the supporters of right-leaning groups to legal and financial harassment. This was, as a federal judge confirmed, an obvious and unquestionable violation of the First Amendment.

Another one that is related by Michael Walsh in the Epoch Times is called, Americans Need to Face Down a Politicized Panic.

In retrospect, we can date the moment America began to slip her moorings as a federal republic dedicated to individual and national sovereignty and descend into arbitrary, politically correct coercion—for our “own good.” The attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, perpetrated by a handful of Arab Muslims, most of them from Saudi Arabia, changed and continue to change the United States in ways no one could have expected at the time.

Hmmm....This is an angle that I haven't looked at before. It does make sense. Does history steer culture? Does culture steer politics? In a "shades of grey" way, yes.

From the ashes left of the fiery inferno have come the Transportation Safety Authority and the Department of Homeland Security, among other newfangled exemplars of big government, which fundamentally altered the relationship of the individual to the state, and have played havoc with our national self-image ever since.

It's the old trading security for freedom. How much of a new American police state will the people be willing to put up with? So far, it looks like we have become quite willing to succumb to giving up a lot of freedoms out of fear.

Manufactured Panic

Which brings us to the increasingly irrational—and socially devastating—media-manufactured panic over the CCP virus. Whether the Chinese Communist Party virus was hatched in a lab, escaped from a boiling pangolin, or was simply a natural mutation of the SARS family at this point hardly matters. To hear the slavishly supine media tell it, the dreaded Covid-19 can fly through the air and into your eyes, ears, nose, throat and other bodily cavities.

It can live forever in deserts and salt marshes alike and survive handily on steel surfaces. What’s worse, it’s racially discriminatory, killing blacks at a higher rate than whites. Every living person, including little children, you encounter is potentially an agent of death and needs to be shunned, screamed at and, when necessary, physically assaulted—for your own safety, of course.

The very air we breathe is a toxic miasma of furry, inflated red jacks that just can’t wait to attack a hapless human. In short, it’s the second coming of the Black Death, and that means infection equals death.

If you don't wear a mask, you will be guilty of murder the next time someone dies of the Coronavirus 500 miles away. It's YOUR fault. Shame on you evil, uneducated, sexist, racist Trump supporter! You should have listened to your betters, and voted for Hillary. What's the matter with all you hayseeds from Kansas? (...or anywhere south of the Mason Dixon Line).

Except that it isn’t. As Angelo Codevilla wrote recently at The American Mind: “What history will record as the great COVID scam of 2020 is based on 1) a set of untruths and baseless assertions—often outright lies—about the novel coronavirus and its effects; 2) the production and maintenance of physical fear through a near-monopoly of communications to forestall challenges to the U.S. ruling class; 3) defaulted opposition on the part of most Republicans. Panicked… the American people assented to being put essentially under house arrest until further notice, effectively suspending the habits, preferences, and liberties that had defined our way of life.”

As Codevilla and many others have made clear, the coronavirus threat is, in the historical scheme of things, miniscule. Those who’ve died have been overwhelmingly elderly—in the mid-80s—generally obese, and suffering from hypertension or other comorbidities that made them easy prey for the opportunistic virus.

A high percentage of them, especially in the northeast United States, were also residents of nursing homes, whence they were deliberately confined by such angels of mercy as New York’s governor, Andrew Cuomo. The young, vital, and healthy have little or nothing to fear from the Wuhan flu.

What this is boiling down to, is the virus is a tool to cull the herd. The Left is anticipating having complete and total power over everyone, while at the same time, providing everything for everyone. Trading freedom for security? The problem is, providing for everyone is too expensive. The elderly cost the medical industry too much money. The deaths of despair  like suicide, drug addiction, domestic violence, and alcoholism infecting the mostly white working class, have served their purpose, eliminating a significant percentage of those evil people that voted for Donald Trump. The less of them, the less chance that they will stand in the way of the Left's march to Utopia.

Power Grab

What makes this bug unusual, however, is the deracinated and draconian overreaction—a power grab by governments at all levels, both here and abroad. What began back in March as “two weeks to flatten the curve” has since morphed into a zero-tolerance ukase that—in the manner of totalitarian power grabs everywhere—insists that the unreasonably perfect be the mortal enemy of the good.

In other words, the answer to the question every freedom-loving man or woman has been asking since this panic over a pandemic began—when will this end?—the answer is likely: never, unless we do something about it.

And guess what? We are not about to do anything about it. We have traded security for freedom. The whole point of the riots was to soften us up.

It’s been pointed out for months now that by shutting down the world’s economies, Covid mania has saved relatively few lives—the examples of places as disparate as South Dakota and Sweden, where there were no lockdowns, testify to that—but instead has blithely condemned millions to joblessness, poverty, other illnesses, isolation, depression, suicide, and premature deaths.

The keywords here are "premature deaths". If you can kill off enough of those Trump voters from Flyover Country, you won't have to worry about the slaves voting against their masters' interests. Better to have a slave class of immigrants, preferably illegal so they can be blackmailed with the threat of deportation, than a slave class of redneck whites who can vote.

Even worse, it has rent the social fabric, perhaps irrevocably, with its malignant prattle about the “new normal” of anti-social distancing, beekeeper face shields and bank-robber masks. Walking around with our faces obscured used to be—and in most places still is—illegal, but that doesn’t seem to matter to the likes of Cuomo and Gavin Newsom of California.

My pastor used to be a lawyer with the Justice Department. He said that wearing a mask in public is in violation of federal law. So when are the powers that be going to switch from mandating that everyone wear a mask, to arresting and prosecuting people for wearing a mask?

But when the average American—you know, the one who believes in God, apple pie, and the flag—starts to feel the system’s been rigged, we are no longer the U.S.A. but the U.S.S.R, where the political nomenklatura and its favored apparatchiks indulge in arbitrary rule-making and discriminatory favoritism, entirely for their own benefit.

Here in the DC area, we live with, and deal with, the "nomenklatura" and "apparatchiks" on a regular basis. I can't speak for other metropolitan areas, although I'm sure they are similar to the DC area. There are a lot of people living in metro areas that rely on government money. It's not just the poor collecting public assistance. You have all the government agencies. You have all the lobbying firms. You have all the various "Beltway Bandit" government contractors. That's a lot of workers, ranging from senior executives to janitors. Their livelihoods all depend on government money, and the bigger the government, the more secure their jobs are. They are not going to bite the hand that feeds them.

Like the flu, we will never be entirely rid of the Chinese Communist virus—although a day of reckoning is coming for the thugs in Beijing.

Let's hope that there is a day of reckoning. We, and the rest of the Western World created the China monster with our addiction to cheap goods. It's actually been cheap goods that has been responsible for the propping up of our standard of living. If all of our products were made here with American workers making American middle class salaries, things would be a lot more expensive. While they are going out of business, a good example is Brooks Brothers. A button-down dress shirt runs over $100. At Costco, a similar button-down dress shirt can be had for $17.99. One is made in Brooklyn, and the other is made in Pakistan. Chinese slave labor makes the  IPhones that the Left loves. If those IPhones were made here in the US, they would probably cost a couple of thousand bucks! Are the American people going to be willing to pay extra for American-made products? Who knows. I am looking forward to that "day of reckoning" though. It's long overdue.
